LARRY KING: BEYOND THE MIC

A half-hour documentary explores two of Larry King's most remarkable and important relationships and the impact they had on his life.

PART l: LARRY & ME

Friendships that last a lifetime are rare; life-long friendships between men, even rarer.  Larry King and Herb Cohen are an exception to the rule—their friendship lasted over 75 years.

In the late 1940s, Herb, Larry, and their crew - The Warriors - hung out, played ball, caused trouble and, most of all, had fun making memories in Brooklyn. Larry Zeiger surpassed his dream of becoming a “radio announcer,” and Herbie Cohen, who “wanted to be a lawyer,” became the best-selling author of “You Can Negotiate Anything.”

The two men remained close throughout their lives, sharing laughter, good times and bad, celebrating the bond they forged on the streets of Bensonhurst and their remarkable successes. Herb takes us on a trip down memory lane, including visits to their childhood homes, the Jewish Community House, and the corner hangout. An ode to enduring male friendship, this film slyly celebrates a bygone era, getting older and what it means to lose a friend.

This heartwarming tale comes to life through a blend of documentary footage, personal photos and animated sequences.

A short story about a long friendship.

PART ll: WHEN LARRY MET LARRY

A heartwarming and poignant story about when and how Larry King and his son, Larry King Jr., met for the first time -- and it wasn’t in the hospital when Jr. was born. What most people probably don’t know is that father and son didn’t meet until Larry King Jr. was in his early 30s, and King was in his early 60s.

King’s childhood friend, Herb Cohen, orchestrated the meeting, and the film explores what it was like for a father and a son to establish a relationship after having had no contact for over 30 years. Herbie and Larry Jr. reminisce about their own meeting, about King’s life, and their individual relationships with him, coming to terms with the imperfections and success of the internationally known celebrity talk show host who was both a father and a best friend.

Using personal photos, videos, and archival footage, this story celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of second chances.

A short story about Larry King, his best friend, and the son he didn’t know he had.
